La cultura juvenil y la liberación de las mujeres aún no han llegado a los
confines de Québec en los 60, donde la madre superiora Agustine tiene
un pequeño colegio de monjas. El convento se ha convertido en un centro
reconocido, donde músicos jóvenes se capacitan. Pero el mundo sagrado
del convento se está convirtiendo cada vez más en un lugar inestable. Por un
lado, el gran talento de una nueva chica rebelde, Alice, mantiene a Agustine de
puntillas. Por otra parte, el convento progresista tiene que luchar con su ultra
conservador patrocinador, el Vaticano. Y, por último, el estado de Canadá está
llamando a la secularización de las escuelas.
Canada during the 1960s. Youth culture and women’s lib have not yet made
it to the furthest reaches of Québec, where mother superior Augustine runs a
small convent school. Over the years, the convent has become a renowned
centre of education where young musicians are trained. But the convent
school’s holy world is becoming increasingly unstable. On the one hand, the
highly talented but rebellious new girl Alice keeps Augustine on her toes. On
the other hand, the progressive nunnery has to battle with its ultra conservative
sponsor – the Vatican. And finally, the state of Canada is calling for the secular-
isation of schools.
