givennumerousconferencesondifferent
aspectsof filmandhasservedas juror
inseveral international festivals.Healso
participates in thecuratorshipof relevant
showcasesofMexicancinemaabroad.
InApril of 1999, hewasappointed
President of the International Federation
of FilmArchives (FIAF), becoming the
first Spanish-speakingpresident in the
more than60yearsof historyof theFIAF,
apositionhehelduntil Juneof 2003. In
Mayof 1999, hewasawarded themedal
of Knight of theOrder ofArtsandLetters,
grantedby theFrenchRepublic, and in
2006 theSpanishCivilMeritAward.He
wasCultural Adviser of theMexican
Embassy inCuba fromMarch2008 to
March2010.He iscurrently theGeneral
Director of theGuadalajara International
FilmFestival.
