Throughout theyears, filmhasdemonstrated itspower to record,
question, examine, reflect on, and, at times, evencreate reality.
Thisyear’sTalentCampusparticipants joiningus fromCostaRica,
Cuba, El Salvador,Guatemala,Honduras,Mexico,Nicaragua,
Panama, and theDominicanRepublicguaranteeadiversity that
will enrich thedialoguewithour guests.
Inaddition, each representative isprecededbyoutstanding
credentials in their areaandanexceptional creativity thatmade
thedecisionsof theselectioncommitteeverydifficult, and
whose recommendationsweconsidered inmaking thefinal list.
Theavalancheof applications, a total of 385, isnow limited toa
groupof only70applicants.
Whether it is in theareasof production, direction, screenwriting,
editing, filmphotography, or criticism, eachmoment of this
edition’sTalentCampuswill bea reflectionof cinema’sneed to
beaconvergingpoint of collaborationandcontrastingartistic
contributions.
Thesupport andvaluable leadershipof institutionssuchas the
BerlinaleTalentCampus,Mexico’sGoethe-Institut, and the
IbermediaProgramhaveallowedus toexpandour horizons in
this fourthedition inorder todeterminestylesand tools that
bring together theparticipants’ creativitywith thenarratives that
emerge, are reinvented, or transformed.
During thesesessions, theopportunity theywill have to interact
withcreatorswho, throughout their careers, havedevelopeda
style, haveengendered respect fromboth thepublicandcritics
alike, andhaveevenconfronted the industry inorder to raise their
ownvoices,will have themakings for a learningprocess thatwill
surelybemutual.
Thebrilliant composer,Michael Nyman, left anunforgettable
markat theBerlinaleTalentCampus last year, andMikeLeigh
joinsusafter having just concludedhisdutiesasJuryPresident in
thisgreatGerman festival. Bothareanessential part of theUnited
Kingdomdelegation that ishere inGuadalajaraasourGuest
Country.Wearegrateful for their generosityandof all theguests
