Licenciado en Biología y cineaste egresado del CENTRO
DE ESTUDIOS CINEMATOGRÁFICOS. Como cineasta,
en 1988 obtuvo el Ariel a mejor cortometraje documental
con la película MARIPOSAMONARCA...ADIVINANZAS
PARA SIEMPRE.Fue Director General de la FILMOTECA
DE LA UNAM de 1989 al 2008. Presidió la FEDERACIÓN
INTERNACIONAL DE ARCHIVOS FÍLMICOS de 1999
al 2003. Ha participado en relevantes muestras de
cine mexicano en el extranjero, impartió múltiples
conferencias sobre cine ha sido miembro del jurado
en reconocidos festivales en todo el mundo. En Mayo
de 1999 recibió la condecoración de CABALLERODE
LA ORDEN DE LAS ARTES Y LETRAS, que le confirió
el Gobierno Francés y en 2006 la ENCOMIENDA AL
MÉRITOCIVIL que le confirió España. Del 2008 al 2010
fue AGREGADOCULTURAL DE MÉXICO EN CUBA.
Actualmente es el Director General del FESTIVAL
INTERNACIONAL DE CINE DE GUADALAJARA.
He has a bachelor’s degree in Biology and studied
CINEMA AT THE CENTER OF CINEMATOGRAPHIC
STUDIES. As a filmmaker, in 1988 he won an Ariel for best
documentary short filmwith MARIPOSAMONARCA...
ADIVINANZAS PARA SIEMPRE. He was General Director
of the FILMARCHIVE of the UNAM from 1989 to 2008.
He presided over the INTERNATIONAL FEDERATION OF
FILMIC ARCHIVES from 1999 to 2003. He participated
in several Mexican film festivals abroad, and has given
lectures about cinema; he has also been judge in many
famous festivals around the globe. In May 1999 he was
worthy of a mention as CHEVALIER DE L’ORDRE DES
ARTS ET DES LETTRES (Knight of the Order of the Fine
Arts and Literature) from the French government, and in
2006 he received a REGARD FOR CIVILWORTH from
Spain. From 2008 to 2010 he was CULTURAL ATTACHÉ
FROMMEXICO IN CUBA. He is currently Director of the
INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL IN GUADALAJARA.
